A Solution For Chin Fat

Submental fat – commonly known as a “double chin” – can be difficult to treat with diet and exercise alone. Most people need to achieve significant weight loss before seeing results, while others may be genetically predisposed to carrying fat underneath the chin. Luckily, there is a new solution in the form of Kybella, an FDA-approved injection that dissolves stubborn submental fat.

What Is Kybella?

Kybella contains deoxycholic acid, a naturally-occurring compound that eats away at fat cells. When Kybella is injected underneath the chin, the naturally occurring product dissolves fat while leaving surrounding healthy tissue untouched.  The remnants of the fat cells are removed over a period of two to three months by the body’s metabolic processes.

*How Many Treatments Will I Need?

Most patients will see significant results with 2 Kybella treatment sessions; some patients may need up to 4 sessions.  The injection process should take about 15 minutes to administer.  Multiple treatments should be spaced 4 weeks apart.

It takes about 12 to 18 months to see ideal results.  While the treatment reduces fat cells, Kybella does not prevent the formation of new fat cells.  Therefore, it’s important for patients to also commit to a healthy lifestyle.

*Are There Any Side Effects?

Patients can expect to experience slight bruising and swelling at the treatment site.  Mild burning sensations may also be experienced. Patients should apply cold compresses to the treatment site to help manage any swelling or discomfort.

How Should I Prepare For Kybella?

Avoid taking aspirin, ibuprofen, and certain vitamins 5-7 days before the procedure.  You should also avoid taking herbs that can increase bleeding and bruising. Alcohol should not be consumed within 48 hours of your Kybella treatment session.
